Ottawa, ON – Yesterday, the Honourable Candice Bergen, Leader of the Official Opposition, made the following statement to announce changes to the Conservative Shadow Cabinet:
"During this unprecedented time in our nation’s history, Conservatives are focused on working to bring unity, calm and wholeness back to our country.
"As we find ways to do that and move toward a post-COVID-19 era, we know there will be huge economic and social challenges continuing to face Canada.
"We need to align our team to tackle these changes, and constructively put forward concrete solutions. We will not only hold the Liberals to account - we want to help provide solutions.
"This new team is ready to do just that.
"Conservatives will be looking to proactively work with various sectors that affect our economy, and our future. Blockchain technologies, crypto assets and financial decentralization are here to stay, and they need our attention. That’s why in addition to Ben Lobb (Huron - Bruce) continuing as Shadow Minister for Digital Government, I’m pleased to appoint him with new responsibilities as my Special Advisor on Blockchain Technologies and Crypto Assets.
"In addition, I believe it’s important for Conservatives to have a voice and presence on the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) during these historic times. That’s why I will be writing to the Prime Minister and asking him to appoint Michelle Rempel Garner (Calgary Nose Hill) and Rob Morrison (Kootenay - Columbia) to the committee.
"We will continue to work towards substantial reforms at NSICOP to make it fully accountable to Parliament. We will also continue demanding answers and documents related to the national microbiology lab in Winnipeg. In the meanwhile, Michelle and Rob will be strong additions to the NSICOP committee.
"Finally, I am pleased to share that Warren Steinley (Regina – Lewvan) will join the Conservative Leadership Team in the role of Caucus-Party Liaison.
"Tim Uppal (Edmonton Mill Woods) will continue on the Leadership Team as Chair of Outreach.
"I want to thank Eric Duncan for the work that he has done on the Leadership Team, and for the great work he will continue to do both in the House and to strengthen our Conservative movement."

Ottawa (Ontario) – Hier, l’honorable Candice Bergen, cheffe de l’Opposition officielle, a fait la déclaration suivante pour annoncer des changements au Cabinet fantôme conservateur :
« En cette période sans précédent dans l’histoire de notre pays, les conservateurs veulent rétablir l’unité et le calme.
« Alors que nous trouvons des façons d’aller de l’avant vers une ère post-COVID-19, nous savons que le Canada va continuer à faire face à d’immenses défis économiques et sociaux.
« Nous devons adapter notre équipe pour relever ces défis et présenter des solutions concrètes de manière constructive. Nous n’allons pas seulement demander des comptes aux libéraux, nous voulons aider à trouver des solutions.
« Cette nouvelle équipe est prête à le faire.
« Les conservateurs vont chercher à travailler de manière proactive avec divers secteurs qui touchent notre économie et notre avenir. Les technologies de chaînes de blocs, les cryptoactifs et la décentralisation financière sont là pour rester, et nous devons y porter attention. C’est pourquoi Ben Lobb (Huron - Bruce) reste ministre du Cabinet fantôme responsable du Gouvernement numérique, et assume de nouvelles responsabilités à titre de mon conseiller spécial sur les technologies de chaînes de blocs et les cryptoactifs.
« De plus, je crois qu’il est important que les conservateurs aient une voix et une présence au Comité des parlementaires sur la sécurité nationale et le renseignement (CPSNR) en cette période historique. C’est pourquoi je vais écrire au premier ministre pour lui demander de nommer Michelle Rempel Garner (Calgary Nose Hill) et Rob Morrison (Kootenay—Columbia) au Comité.
« Nous allons continuer à chercher à apporter des réformes significatives au Comité pour le rendre pleinement responsable devant le Parlement. De plus, nous allons continuer à exiger des réponses et des documents sur le laboratoire national de microbiologie de Winnipeg. Entretemps, Michelle et Rob seront de solides ajouts au CPSNR.
« Finalement, j’ai le plaisir d’annoncer que Warren Steinley (Regina—Lewvan) se joindra à l’Équipe de direction du caucus à titre de responsable de la Liaison avec le caucus.
« Tim Uppal (Edmonton Mill Woods) restera à l’Équipe de direction comme président de la Liaison.
« Je tiens à remercier Eric Duncan pour son travail au sein de l’Équipe de direction, pour l’excellent travail qu’il va continuer à faire à la Chambre, et pour renforcer notre mouvement conservateur. »
