Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Candice Bergen, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition issued the following statement on the passing of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates:
“Conservatives extend our sympathies to Emiratis who are mourning the death of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who served the people of the United Arab Emirates from 2004 until his passing.
“Sheikh Khalifa has been a partner in deepening ties between Canada and the UAE. Canada and the UAE have shared interests in combatting international terrorism, strengthening regional and global security, contributing to economic and social development, and deepening people to people ties.
“Sheikh Khalifa was a remarkable man and leader of the Emirati people. Conservatives will remember his legacy, and we look forward to working with his successor to continue to strengthen the relationship between our two countries."

Ottawa (Ontario) – L’honorable Candice Bergen, cheffe du Parti conservateur du Canada et de l’Opposition officielle, a fait la déclaration suivante à la suite du décès du président des Émirats arabes unis, le Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan :
« Les conservateurs expriment leur sympathie aux Émiratis qui pleurent la mort du président Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, qui a servi le peuple des Émirats arabes unis de 2004 jusqu’à son décès.
« Sheikh Khalifa a été un partenaire dans l’approfondissement des liens entre le Canada et les Émirats arabes unis. Le Canada et les Émirats arabes unis ont des intérêts communs dans la lutte contre le terrorisme international, le renforcement de la sécurité régionale et mondiale, la contribution au développement économique et social et l’approfondissement des liens entre les peuples.
« Sheikh Khalifa était un homme remarquable et le leader du peuple émirati. Les conservateurs se souviendront de son héritage et nous nous réjouissons de travailler avec son successeur pour continuer à renforcer les relations entre nos deux pays. »
