Ottawa (Ontario) — Joël Godin, le ministre du Cabinet fantôme conservateur responsable des langues officielles, anticipe un automne très chargé dans le contexte du projet de loi C-13 modifiant la Loi sur les langues officielle qui sera étudié au Comité permanent des langues officielles.

« Les organismes francophones et le rapport du commissaire aux langues officielles indiquent clairement que ce projet aura besoin d’améliorations importantes. Si nous voulons arrêter le déclin du français, il faudra que le C-13 soit renforcé. Je travaille à des améliorations qui toucheraient, entre-autres, le rôle du Conseil du Trésor afin d’en faire une agence centrale, l’ajout de clauses linguistiques et l’atteinte des cibles en immigration francophone. De nombreuses interrogations se posent avec ce projet de loi. Je demande respectueusement à la ministre de reconnaître les faiblesses de son projet de loi et d’accepter des amendements, a souligné Joël Godin ».

Official Languages Act: A bill that needs amendments

Ottawa, ON — Joël Godin, Conservative Shadow Minister for Official Languages, anticipates a busy fall session as Bill C-13, an amendment to the Official Languages Act, returns to the Standing Committee on Official Languages.

“Francophone organizations and the report of the Commissioner of Official Languages clearly indicate that this project will need significant improvements. If we want to stop the decline of French, Bill C-13 will need to be strengthened. I am working on improvements that would affect, among other things, the role of the Treasury Board to make it a central agency, the addition of language clauses, and the achievement of Francophone immigration targets. There are many questions that arise from this bill. I respectfully ask the Minister to recognize the weaknesses in her bill and to accept amendments,” said Joël Godin.
