FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - On Friday, April 30th, Brad Vis, Member of Parliament for Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon, presented his 12th petition calling on the Government of Canada to condemn the acts of violence perpetrated against farmers in India peacefully protesting domestic agriculture policy changes that affect their livelihoods. This is the 5th time MP Vis has risen in the House of Commons to table petitions on this issue, representing the signed support of over 600 individuals.
“I am proud to join with petitioners in my riding in calling on the federal government to condemn the use of violence and reaffirm Canada’s international support for the fundamental freedoms of expression and peaceful assembly.” MP Vis said. “I’ve been to a number of local rallies in support of these farmers and echo their message: Without farmers, we don’t have food, we don’t have a future.”
MP Vis stands with the vibrant South Asian community in Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon as they peacefully demonstrate in support of their friends and family in the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana. No other Member of Parliament has tabled as many petitions on this critical issue as MP Brad Vis. He continues to call on Justin Trudeau and his government to defend and promote the democratic principles our nation was founded on.
