Ottawa, ON – Michael Barrett, Conservative Shadow Minister for Ethics, and Pierre Poilievre, Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance, have sent a letter to the Elections Commissioner regarding Justin Trudeau’s $900 million scandal and the close ties between the Prime Minister, WE Charity, and the Liberal Party of Canada.

Over the past number of weeks, there have been allegations of data sharing between the Liberal Party and the WE organization, reports that WE staff were told to attend partisan Liberal Party events, and the unearthing of a video produced in 2017 by the WE organization featuring and promoting Justin Trudeau. The Canada Elections Act strictly prohibits the making of contributions, whether monetary or ‘in-kind,’ by incorporated entities.

“While the video, potential data-sharing, and political event crowd-filling each represent a worth and benefit differing in nature and value, I respectfully contend that these collectively present a picture of non-monetary contributions in aid of the Liberal Party and its leading figures,” said MP Barrett. “Given the torrent of disclosures and revelations in recent days and weeks, it may be that this is simply scratching the surface of the organizations’ ties and is the ‘tip of the iceberg’ in terms of support given to the Liberal cause.”

“The links between WE Charity and Liberal politicians raise the question about whether the party or its candidates have benefited from the charity,” said MP Poilievre. “The Commissioner of Canada Elections must examine all these links and determine if anyone crossed the line."

Ottawa (Ontario) – Michael Barrett, le ministre du Cabinet fantôme conservateur responsable de l’Éthique, et Pierre Poilievre, le ministre du Cabinet fantôme conservateur responsable des Finances, ont écrit au commissaire aux élections fédérales au sujet du scandale de 900 millions de dollars de Trudeau et des étroits liens qui existent entre le premier ministre, l’organisme UNIS et le Parti libéral du Canada.

Depuis quelques semaines, nous voyons des allégations de partage de données entre le Parti libéral et l’organisme UNIS, des reportages selon lesquels des employés de l’organisme UNIS étaient tenus d’assister à des événements partisans du Parti libéral, ainsi qu’une vidéo promotionnelle produite en 2017 par l’organisme UNIS mettant Justin Trudeau en vedette. La Loi électorale du Canada interdit formellement les contributions, monétaires ou « en nature », par des entités constituées.

« La vidéo, l’éventuel partage de données et l’événement politique sont des avantages de nature et de valeur différentes, et je soutiens respectueusement qu’ensemble, ces preuves représentent des contributions non monétaires afin d’aider le Parti libéral et ses principaux dirigeants, a dit le député Barrett. Compte tenu du flot de divulgations et de révélations faites ces derniers jours et ces dernières semaines, ça ne pourrait être que la pointe de l’iceberg quant aux liens de cet organisme avec le Parti libéral et son soutien à la cause libérale. »

« Les liens entre l’organisme UNIS et des politiciens libéraux nous poussent à nous demander si le parti ou ses candidats ont bénéficié de cet organisme, a dit le député Poilievre. Le commissaire aux élections fédérales doit examiner tous ces liens et déterminer si quelqu’un a enfreint les règles. »
