Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Candice Bergen, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Eid al-Adha:

“For the next several days, Muslims in Canada and around the world begin the celebration of Eid al-Adha – the Festival of Sacrifice.

“This important day marks the end of Hajj and provides Muslims, and all Canadians, an opportunity to meditate on the values of faithfulness, sacrifice, and compassion.

“As they reflect on the story of Abraham’s inspiring obedience to God, many members of the Muslim community will be celebrating by gathering together to participate in acts of worship, charity, and thanksgiving.

“On this special occasion, I’d like to thank Canada’s incredible Muslim community for all the ways that they have blessed their neighbours and worked to make Canada a more generous and hospitable place to live.

“I wish all Muslims observing Eid a time of peace and contentment as they celebrate this joyous festival.

“Eid Mubarak!”

Ottawa (Ontario) – L’honorable Candice Bergen, cheffe du Parti conservateur du Canada et de l’Opposition officielle, a fait la déclaration suivante pour marquer le début de l’Aïd al-Adha :

« Au cours des prochains jours, les musulmans du Canada et du monde entier entameront la célébration de l’Aïd al-Adha — la fête du Sacrifice.

« Cette journée importante marque la fin du Hajj et donne aux musulmans, et à tous les Canadiens, l’occasion de méditer sur les valeurs de fidélité, de sacrifice et de compassion.

« En réfléchissant à l’histoire de l’obéissance inspirante d’Abraham à Dieu, de nombreux députés de la communauté musulmane se rassembleront pour participer à des actes de culte, de charité et de remerciement.

« En cette occasion spéciale, j’aimerais remercier l’incroyable communauté musulmane du Canada pour toutes les façons dont elle a béni ses voisins et travaillé à faire du Canada un endroit plus généreux et plus accueillant où vivre.

« Je souhaite à tous les musulmans qui célèbrent l’Aïd un moment de paix et de satisfaction dans le cadre de cette joyeuse fête.
