Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Candice Bergen, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Eid al-Fitr:
“Today, Muslims around the world will celebrate Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
“During Ramadan, the Muslim community in Canada dedicated themselves to personal spiritual growth and acts of service, compassion and charity. Many spent time and energy investing back into their neighbourhoods.
“I’d like to thank everyone who worked to support others this Ramadan. Your kindness and generosity have been a blessing to your communities and to our entire country.
“The pandemic interrupted many usual traditions and festivities and Muslims have patiently waited for a return to normal. I’m thankful that after two years of restrictions, many will once again be able to gather together to celebrate this joyous holiday with families and friends.
“As you celebrate Eid this evening, and reflect on the end of Ramadan, I hope that your gatherings are full of peace, comfort and spiritual renewal.
“Eid Mubarak to all celebrating.”

Ottawa (Ontario) – L’honorable Candice Bergen, cheffe du Parti conservateur du Canada et de l’Opposition officielle, a fait la déclaration suivante à l’occasion de l’Aïd el-Fitr :
« Aujourd’hui, les musulmans du monde entier célèbrent l’Aïd el-Fitr, qui marque la fin du mois sacré du Ramadan.
« Pendant le Ramadan, la communauté musulmane du Canada s’est consacrée à sa croissance spirituelle personnelle et à des actes de service, de compassion et de charité. Nombre d’entre eux ont consacré du temps et de l’énergie à réinvestir dans leur quartier.
« J’aimerais remercier tous ceux et celles qui ont fait preuve d’altruisme pendant le Ramadan. Votre bonté et votre générosité ont été une bénédiction pour vos communautés et pour notre pays tout entier.
« La pandémie a interrompu de nombreuses traditions et festivités habituelles et les musulmans ont patiemment attendu un retour à la normale. Je suis heureuse de constater qu’après deux années de restrictions, beaucoup pourront à nouveau se rassembler pour célébrer cette joyeuse fête en famille et entre amis.
« Alors que vous célébrez l’Aïd el-Fitr, ce soir, et que vous réfléchissez à la fin du Ramadan, j’espère que vos rassemblements seront empreints de paix, de réconfort et de renouveau spirituel.
« Eid Mubarak à tous ceux qui célèbrent. »
