Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Candice Bergen, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on the beginning of Pride Month:
“Today, LGBTQ2S+ Canadians and their allies across the country are celebrating the beginning of Pride Month.
“During Pride, we recommit to building a country where no one is suffering because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, so that everyone can live free from hatred and discrimination. We also commit to helping members of the international LGBTQ2S+ community who live in areas of the world where they are targeted because of their sexual orientation.
“No one should ever be judged for who they are or who they love. Bigotry and homophobia have no place in Canada.
“This month, while we celebrate the progress that has been made for the LGBTQ2S+ community so far, we know that more work lies ahead of us. I’m proud of recent efforts put forward by my Conservative colleagues on behalf of the LGBTQ2S+ community, including our successful advocacy to end the homophobic gay blood ban.
“On behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada, I want to extend my thanks to all those across the country who are continuing the fight for equality this Pride Month.
“Happy Pride!”

Ottawa (Ontario) – L’honorable Candice Bergen, cheffe du Parti conservateur du Canada et de l’Opposition officielle, a fait la déclaration suivante à l’occasion du début du Mois de la fierté :
« Aujourd’hui, les Canadiens LGBTQ2S+ et leurs alliés d’un océan à l’autre célèbrent le début du mois des fiertés.
« Pendant le Mois de la Fierté, nous nous engageons à bâtir un pays où personne ne souffre en raison de son orientation sexuelle ou de son identité de genre, afin que chacun puisse vivre à l’abri de la haine et de la discrimination. Nous nous engageons également à aider les membres de la communauté internationale LGBTQ2S+ qui vivent dans des régions du monde où ils sont pris pour cible en raison de leur orientation sexuelle.
« Personne ne devrait jamais être jugé pour ce qu’il est ou ce qu’il aime. Le sectarisme et l’homophobie n’ont pas leur place au Canada.
« Ce mois-ci, alors que nous célébrons les progrès réalisés jusqu’à présent pour la communauté LGBTQ2S+, nous savons qu’il y a encore beaucoup de travail à faire. Je suis fière des récents efforts déployés par mes collègues conservateurs au nom de la communauté LGBTQ2S+, y compris notre plaidoyer réussi pour mettre fin à l’interdiction homophobe sur le don de sang.
