Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Onam:
“Every year, as the summer season comes to a close, Malayalees around the world gather to celebrate the ancient festival of Onam.
“Over the next ten days, celebrations will fill streets in Kerala and around the world as Malayalees commemorate the homecoming of King Mahabali and give thanks for a bountiful harvest. Together, they will celebrate the timeless values of peace and harmony, honouring the bonds of language and kinship that have sustained the Malayalee community for generations.
“Today, as Malayalees here in Canada face the challenges of inflation, Onam is an opportunity to reflect on King Mahabali’s incredible wisdom and his timeless message of hope in hard times.
“As doorways are brightened with vibrant Athapoo, and as the smells of the Sadya fill homes around the world, I hope that everyone celebrating is blessed with a renewed sense of peace and comfort. May this inspiring festival bring encouragement as we give thanks for the many blessings we receive and strengthen us as we look to the days ahead.

Ottawa (Ontario) – L’honorable Pierre Poilievre, chef du Parti conservateur du Canada et de l’Opposition officielle, a fait la déclaration suivante à l’occasion de l’Onam :
« Chaque année, alors que la saison estivale tire à sa fin, les Malaisiens du monde entier se rassemblent pour célébrer l’ancien festival d’Onam.
« Au cours des dix prochains jours, les rues du Kerala et du monde entier seront envahies par les célébrations, les Malaisiens commémorant le retour du roi Mahabali et remerciant pour l’abondance des récoltes. Ensemble, ils célébreront les valeurs intemporelles de la paix et de l’harmonie, en honorant les liens de la langue et de la parenté qui soutiennent la communauté malaise depuis des générations.
« Aujourd’hui, alors que les Malaisiens du Canada sont confrontés aux défis de l’inflation, l’Onam est l’occasion de réfléchir à l’incroyable sagesse du roi Mahabali et à son message intemporel d’espoir dans les moments difficiles.
« Alors que les portes s’illuminent d’Athapoo vibrant et que les odeurs de Sadya emplissent les foyers du monde entier, j’espère que tous ceux qui célèbrent l’Onam se sentent à nouveau en paix et réconfortés. Que ce festival inspirant nous encourage à rendre grâce pour les nombreuses bénédictions que nous recevons et nous fortifie alors que nous nous tournons vers les jours à venir.
